Number 23 Michael Jordan Turns 51

Number 23 Michael Jordan Turns 51

Michael Jordan, arguably the best basketball player in NBA history, celebrates his 51st birthday today. The laundry list of achievements for one of the most well-liked and accomplished athletes of all-time are utterly staggering (6-time NBA champion, 5-time NBA MVP, 14-time All-Star, 10-time first team All-NBA, etc.) and would take more than a few sentences to serve them justice.

In 2014, Jordan's overall brand, particularly in terms of merchandise sales and marketability, remain as popular as ever and keep him very relevant in today's social media-driven society. Through an almost unlimited supply of YouTube highlights, he has been "re-introduced" to younger generations as their own hero, even though his main contribution nowadays is in the front office.

MANY DUKE AND UNC FANS LOST SIGHT OF COMMON SENSE LAST WEEK

MANY DUKE AND UNC FANS LOST SIGHT OF COMMON SENSE LAST WEEK

I'm not a college basketball fan, but this one really makes me laugh.  For starters, you need to know that in the state of North Carolina, college basketball is like a religion.  Oddly and sadly, it is more revered than even the Panthers and/or the NFL.  As an employer in NC, I can tell you that the one week of the year that most employees call out sick or take vacation is ACC tournament week.  I don't quite get it, but that's just me.

BEYONCÉ-OBAMA AFFAIR RUMORS SWEEP THE INTERNET

Everyone just take a deep breath. Deeper. Now slowly exhale, because rumors of an imminent, Internet-breaking story exposing an alleged affair between Beyoncé and President Barack Obama are not true. Repeat: The rumors are NOT TRUE.

The "Scandal"-worthy whispers sprang to life on Monday following an interview given by a well-connected French
photographer named Pascal Rotain.

"You know, at this time, the United States, there is something big that is happening," he's quoted as saying. "Anyway, it'll go out [Tuesday] in the Washington Post -- we cannot say that it is the gutter press -- [a story about] an alleged affair between President Barack Obama and Beyoncé. I can assure you that the world will be talking about it."

Blasts heard near Yemen defence ministry.

Blasts heard near Yemen defence ministry.

Three large explosions have been heard in Yemen's capital Sanaa, close to the defence ministry, the central bank and the former president's home, a report by Reuters news agency has said.

"The explosions were followed by heavy gunfire," said a resident quoted by Reuters.

The third explosion occurred near the house of the former president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, the news agency said.

Security vehicles immediately raced to the third site of the blasts and blocked all access to the area, while an ambulance transported four people injured on site, eyewitnesses told Reuters.

The witnesses told Reuters that the blast near Saleh's home appears to have been caused by an implanted explosive device in the area.

There was no immediate word on the total number of casualties or the cause of the blasts, the news agency said.

Yemen has been in turmoil since mass protests in 2011 forced long-serving Saleh to step down.

In December last year, a suicide bomb and gun attack near the defence ministry killed 52 people.

In another indication of the growing unrest in the country, a mortar shell was fired overnight in the direction of the French embassy while a car bomb exploded metres away in Sanaa's diplomatic quarter, a police source said early on Monday.

"The two attacks happened after midnight. There were no victims," the source said.

The shell fell by a concrete block, installed for security reasons on a road leading to the embassy, he added.

That blast came shortly after a car exploded on the nearby main road.
